Facebook has officially denied rumors regarding the uses of microphone of mobile device to spy on personal conversations of user. Earlier it was claimed; to develop better understanding on target ads.Facebook is listening conversations. In an official statement, Facebook revealed that that it “does not use your phone’s microphone to inform ads or to change what you see in News Feed.” The company says it only shows ads based on people’s interests and other profile information. Facebook responded after a professor of mass communication from University of South Florida blamed Facebook for listening confidential conversations of users.
Professor Burn wasn’t the first one with such claim against Facebook. Although Burns comment did intrigue a pompous heated reaction in users, this concept that Facebook was collecting information was doing rounds in social media for a long time now. Burns wasn’t the first one to origin the theory. The speculations aroused because Face book has the permission to listen because the mobile app features like catching video .However, experts on this regards also stated that this is over imaginative , even with such permission faceboook will be listening to personal conversations all the time . Devices like Amazon’s Echo listen indefinitely unless it’s been forcefully muted.
Facebook is trying to clear the blame of violation of privacy. If such claims prove to be true then it will evoke an outrage of exasperation. “We only access your microphone if you have given our app permission and if you are actively using a specific feature that requires audio, this might include recording a video or using an optional feature we introduced two years ago to include music or other audio in your status updates.” Facebook is mentioning tagging a music or TV show when someone writes a status. Users can also turn of the microphone access option if they want. Facebook requested users to not get carried away with such rumor and enjoy using Facebook.
