FDA conducted operation Pangea IX to target illegal prescription drug selling sites

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has declared that they have taken legal action against 4402 websites for selling illegal prescription drugs.FDA was partnered with international regulatory and law enforcement agencies in this endeavor. This action was named as Operation Pangea IX. The united goal of operation Pangea IX was to highlight the real manufacturer and distributor of the illegal medicine selling system.

FDA recently organized a task force investigation targeting the distribution process of DNP in May 9.A. This Rhode Island consumer died after using the a DNP which was illegally purchased from internet . The seller, Adam Alden was found guilty. FDA not only requested adjournment of those 4402 websites but also sent legal notice to other 53 websites.

FDA operated intensive inspections at international Mail, Facilities (IMFs), coordinating with U.S customs and Border protection. FDA sent formal complaints to postpone those 4402 websites. This 4402 websites also includes 110 website, these are notorious for selling a specific weight loss product named DNP. Primary investigations on Drug selling revealed that U.S consumers are regularly purchasing unapproved   drug products from abroad for treatment of depression, narcolepsy, high cholesterol, glaucoma and asthma. FDA stated that consumers should be extremely careful while purchasing prescription drugs from internet. FDA also released guidelines to identify illegal pharmacy online.

Illegal pharmacies not only pose severe health risk, they are also blamed for credit card theft, computer virus spreading and identity theft. FDA is requesting potential customers to report criminal activities in FDA’s professional website.

The IIWA is constructed by FDA, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, National Intellectual Property Rights Coordination Center, INTERPOL, the World Customs Organization, and the Permanent Forum of International Pharmaceutical Crime, Heads of Medicines Agencies Working Group of Enforcement Officers, the pharmaceutical industry and national health and law enforcement agencies from 115 participating countries.

FDA is promised to protect public health by ensuring safety, effectiveness and security of human. FDA also controls the quality of veterinary drugs, vaccines and several other biological products that human use. FDA is solely responsible for ensuring the betterment of food, food supply, cosmetics and dietary supplements. In addition, FDA monitors tobacco products.
