INDEPENDENCE — A former Grayson County deputy sheriff was indicted on 14 sex-related charges last Friday by a Grayson County Circuit Court grand jury. Shane Alan Widner, 33, was a sergeant when he was fired Jan. 13 by the sheriff's department.

HILLSVILLE — Two felony charges against a Galax man accused of fleeing from the scene of a drug sting in April will go to Carroll Circuit Court, but other charges will be taken up by federal prosecutors.

ROANOKE — A Fancy Gap man pleaded guilty to a charge of distribution of methamphetamine in U.S. District Court in Roanoke Monday.
